According to GE Vernova’s press release from https://www.gevernova.com, on March 13, 2025, GE Vernova Inc. announced a Selangor state-linked company, Worldwide Holding Berhad (WHB)’s Pulau Indah power plant achieved the start of operation in Selangor, Malaysia. Equipped with two blocks of GE Vernova HA combined-cycle equipment, the new 1,200 MW plant is expected to generate enough electricity to supply approximately 2.5 million homes in Malaysia. Additionally, under a 21-year agreement, GE Vernova will provide maintenance services and software solutions to enhance the plant’s asset visibility, reliability, and availability.

For this project, GE Vernova provided two blocks of 600 MW, each including a 9HA.01 gas turbine, an STF-D650 steam turbine, a W88 generator and a Once Through Heat Recovery Steam Generator (OT HRSG). At the heart of the plant, the two 9HA gas turbines—designed for extreme flexibility—offer high ramp rates and rapid startup times to accommodate fluctuating demand. Additionally, the HA unit can burn up to 50% hydrogen by volume when blended with natural gas.
Mr. Ramesh Singaram, President and CEO of Asia, Gas Power, GE Vernova, noted that with the addition of this plant, the number of global operating units has now reached 116, collectively surpassing 3 million commercial operating hours—equivalent to the capacity required to power more than 50 million U.S. homes.

PTSC Quang Ngai’s Contribution to the Project:
Exhaust Diffuser Duct for Gas Turbine Model 9HA.01, Lifting and Erection frames manufactured by PTSC Quang Ngai
Natural gas is gaining popularity in Malaysia for electricity generation due to its availability, lower emissions compared to coal, and operational flexibility. With the economy expected to triple and the population surpassing 40 million in the next three decades, energy demand will rise significantly in this country. Malaysia aims for net-zero emissions by 2050, as outlined in its National Energy Policy, and is refining its long-term low-emission strategy.
A key component of the Pulau Indah Power Plant is the 9HA.01 gas turbines, designed for high efficiency and operational flexibility. In November 2021, after a rigorous qualification process, GE Vernova has awarded the Purchase Order to PTSC Quang Ngai Joint stock company (PTSC Quang Ngai) for supplying 02 Exhaust Diffuser Ducts of the 9HA.01 Gas Turbine (Model 9HA, the 1st generation) for Pulau Indah Power Plant project. Besides this scope of work, PTSC Quang Ngai also undertook the fabrication and supply of lifting & erection frames, roof casing for the project. PTSC Quang Ngai’s involvement in this critical project underscores its expertise in fabrication and delivering high-quality components for advanced power generation technology.
